CBA Lecture: RASSO – Assumptions and Misconceptions
Monday 18th March
18.00 – 19.00
Online
Introduction: Charlotte Newell KC (5KBW) – CBA Education Joint Chair.
Speaker: Jude Watson, Senior Policy Adviser, Crown Prosecution Service. An experienced specialist on Violence Against Women and Girls, with considerable expertise on rape misconceptions and assumptions.
The CPS will give a presentation of research findings from a project undertaken with Equally Ours, strategic communications specialists, on rape assumptions and misconceptions. The project aimed to improve our understanding of the extent to which rape assumptions and misconceptions influence the public, and the ways in which messaging can be improved to tackle assumptions and misconceptions more effectively. This research was based on a literature review, stakeholder roundtables, focus groups, and a survey of over 3000 members of the public – the largest survey of the public on this issue in over 5 years, providing vital new insights. The findings shed new light on the pervasiveness of rape misconceptions and assumptions, and crucially, the ways in which we can most effectively tackle them.
This lecture will be recorded with the access link circulated at 14.00hrs on the day of the talk (18th March).
