Bar Council “Day in Court for Ukrainian Lawyers” scheme
On the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, in order to assist our Ukrainian colleagues’ adaptation in the UK, the Bar Council is looking for volunteers for its “Day in Court for Ukrainian Lawyers” scheme.
The idea for the scheme arose out of a number of requests received by the Bar Council from Ukrainian lawyers who are now either working or seeking work in England and commonly raise queries about how English & Welsh court practice works.
The scheme will match a volunteer barrister with a Ukrainian lawyer practising in the same/similar field so that the two of them can arrange a convenient day when a Ukrainian lawyer would be able to join a barrister for a day in court/tribunal/other hearing or otherwise in chambers observing the work and receiving some introduction to the member’s work. It is hoped that the day would be beneficial to both the Ukrainian lawyers who wish to understand how English legal system works from an “insider” point of view but also allow the Bar to forge contacts with their Ukrainian colleagues.
