Members’ Message – 26.09.22
On 21st September 2022, the Criminal Bar Association began talks with the Ministry of Justice on the causes of the action taken by Criminal Barristers, and the requirements necessary to secure the present and future of a vibrant, diverse Criminal Bar, without which there can be no functioning Criminal Justice System. The talks with Government are supported by the Bar Council.
These commenced after the first meeting between the Secretary of State for Justice, Brandon Lewis MP and the Criminal Bar Association and are ongoing as of today’s date.
The Criminal Bar Association is pushing the talks forward and keeping the balloted demands at the forefront of the conversation.
Your support, contributions at meetings and gatherings, sacrifices and commitment to the Criminal Bar and Criminal Justice are with us throughout.
The talks are constructive.
We will continue to keep you updated.
Indefinite action remains ongoing, in accordance with the ballot of 22nd August 2022.
Gatherings of barristers outside courts paused last week but resume this week.
More details of courts’ locations and timings will be circulated today.
Yours,
Kirsty Brimelow KC – Chair
Tana Adkin KC – Vice-Chair
Laurie-Anne Power KC – Treasurer
