Courts and tribunals: Updated Guidance from HMCTS – 01.10.21
We’ve updated our COVID-19 guidance on GOV.UK to add more detailed advice on coming to our buildings. This does not change our current advice, but reminds you not to come to a court or tribunal if you’ve been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, and you’re not fully vaccinated.
You’re welcome to share this link and the three main points below with your networks. You should always check GOV.UK for the most up to date advice on coming to court and tribunal buildings.
Key points to remember
1. Do not come to our buildings if:
- you test positive for COVID-19
- you have COVID-19 symptoms
- you’re self-isolating
- you’re waiting for a test result
- you’re quarantining after returning from travel abroad
- you’ve been in close contact with someone who tested positive, and you’re not fully vaccinated
Contact the court or tribunal directly to let them know and make alternative arrangements.
2. Follow the self-isolation rules
These may be different for England, Wales and Scotland. If you’ve been advised to self-isolate, do not travel to a hearing without speaking to the court or tribunal first.
You may no longer need to self-isolate following contact with someone who tested positive, for example if you’re fully vaccinated. Even if you think you do not need to self-isolate, before coming to a court or tribunal you should:
- get a PCR test
- wait for the result
- contact the court to let them know
3. Take tests if you do not have symptoms
You can take free, rapid lateral flow COVID-19 tests, available in your local area, or to order online. We encourage you to take a test before coming to our buildings to help manage your risks.
You can also get a PCR test if you’ve been in close contact with someone who tested positive.
