SPECIAL MESSAGE PROSECUTION FEES SURVEY 17.04.19
The survey will close tomorrow at 5.00pm. Today the Bar Chair, Richard Atkins QC, the Young Barristers Committee, and the Circuit Leaders will be sending out messages to the whole of the criminal bar urging all barristers who are currently on the CPS list to fill in the survey. Every single response is vital.
We are determined to make very significant improvements for those of you who prosecute, both in terms of remuneration and in your working conditions. The work you do is fundamental to the quality of our justice system but your commitment, professionalism and goodwill has been abused for too long. The CPS Chief Executive knows about the survey and is waiting to receive the final results. We need him, the DPP, HM Treasury, and the wider public to be left in no doubt how strongly you feel about fees which have remained static since 2001, and which do not reflect the hugely increasing demands of the work.
Please encourage anyone you see in court or chambers today to fill in the survey. Your participation and answers will remain confidential but you must provide your details for verification purposes or your answers can’t be included, and the survey must be completed in full.
The number of responses so far has been fantastic. This is a unique opportunity. Lets get a full house by 5.00pm tomorrow.
